Alzheimer’s is a disease scientists and medical providers don’t fully understand. Clear-cut risk factors include age and family history, but evidence also suggests that staying physically, mentally, and socially active may help to reduce the risk of developing dementia or other memory loss issues. Even so, when memory loss begins to disrupt daily life, it’s time to seek help and memory care.

Living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or any other memory-related condition comes with concerns about securing the best possible care. You’re also likely seeking a living environment that supports exceptional memory care in Huntsville. According to the CDC, in 2014 as many as 5 million Americans were living with Alzheimer’s disease. The number is projected to nearly triple by 2060 to roughly 14 million people.

Alzheimer’s Treatment Approach

When it comes to treating Alzheimer’s, it’s all about medical management to improve quality of life. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease. That said, treatment is often tailored to assist with maintaining mental function, managing behavioral symptoms as needed, and working to slow or delay the symptoms of the disease.

Our Memory Care Facility

Our Pathways Intentional Memory Care program is purposed to provide intentional care to those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The program works to minimize discomfort and pain associated with memory loss, and also to help foster experiences of kindness, laughter, and happiness. Our care providers work to get to know residents well– learning about their families, their favorite things, their personal items and mementos that carry meaning, and seek to help create a feeling of home, familiarity, and comfort. We believe very much so in the power of kindness, consistency, and reassurance.

Other Facets of Our Memory Care

Music Therapy– We believe music therapy can help stimulate memory activity, and our residents love this approach! Music has a keen ability to activate the cognitive process while also eliciting smiles, dancing, and happiness.

Pet Therapy– We believe in the power of animals to help diminish stress, generally help to improve mood, and ease the difficulties some memory care patients have with connecting socially. The presence of pets can help to ease the effects of dementia, as well as the anxiety, irritability, agitation, and loneliness that can accompany it. iN2L Person-Centered Engagement Technology– This facet of our memory care services incorporates user-friendly, stimulating software, interactive games, and more for recreation, memory engagement, and of course, social connection. The saying “if you don’t use it, you lose it” comes into play here, and we seek to help preserve memory through purposeful activity that also proves to be very enjoyable for those in our care.
