Johnny was born on Dec 14th at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, to Giles and Gladys Lawrence. He was the middle of two siblings. He has lived in Tuscaloosa most of his life and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School. Johnny married Diane McGahey and they have been happily married for 55 years! They have awesome children, Scott and Angie, and Johnny is a doting “Papa” to his grandchildren, Reagan and Evan. Johnny worked for 34 years with the Alabama Department of Transportation and was a District Engineer upon retirement. He also is a Registered Land Surveyor. Johnny was proud to serve 37 years in the US Army Reserve and retired as a lieutenant colonel. Johnny and Diane are avid Crimson Tide fans and love going to Alabama football and basketball games. Johnny started fishing at a young age with his dad and his love for fishing continued. He is happiest on a lake or river in his boat. He also loves playing golf and enjoys driving his grandkids around on a golf cart. Johnny is a member of Skyland Baptist Church. He has also served as a Deacon at Hopewell Baptist Church.
