Memory Care

Coping with the symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease or caring for a loved one with dementia is a very difficult thing, but you don’t have to go through it alone. When your memory loss (or the memory issues of a loved one) begins to adversely interfere with your everyday life, it may be time to consider entering a memory care community. Many assisted living communities offer intensive, specialized care for seniors dealing with memory loss, and Regency happens to be one of the best.

Living with Dementia

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are currently more than 5 million Americans age 65 or older living with Alzheimer’s, and that number is expected to triple by the year 2050. They also report that 1 in 10 people in that age range has dementia. This staggering number only highlights the importance of developing and executing great memory care programs to support these seniors and their families. And that’s where our memory care program at Regency comes in.

Treatment and Memory Care

When it comes to progressive dementias like Alzheimer’s disease, there is currently no cure or treatment that slows or stops its progression. That said, there are medications that can temporarily improve symptoms, and treatments that can help to minimize the impact of the disease.

At our community, our compassionate staff helps provide memory care residents with everyday structure to reduce stress, helps with personal care tasks, meals, and meds, and is especially trained to deal with the unique symptoms that accompany dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Pathways Intentional Memory Care, our program at Regency, focuses on creating a positive environment and community, drawing on non-drug therapies such as pet and music therapy, as well as iN2L– an engagement technology that incorporates user-friendly software and interactive games to help preserve memory skills through intentional activities.

We never want our residents to feel alone or discouraged, and we work diligently to provide continued and individualized support as they navigate their days here in our community. Learn more about Pathways and our approach to memory care through our blog.

The Pathways Difference.

Quality Memory Care results in fewer hospital visits, improved appetite, and an overall higher quality of life. At Pathways, we treasure the opportunities we’re given to know your loved ones and help them to not only minimize their discomfort and pain, but also experience future moments of happiness, kindness, and laughter in our Memory Care community.

What is Intentional Memory Care?

We intentionally seek out opportunities to get to know our residents on a personal level, making meaningful connections. We know their favorite things, their family, and use personal items or mementos of the past to decorate their entryways and living space. Our Neighborhoods evoke a feeling of home, safety, cleanliness, and comfort. Consistency, kindness, and reassurance is what you and your loved one can expect and rely upon.

Medication reminders administered by nurses and trained caregivers keep your loved ones healthy and reduce the risk of negative drug interactions. Chronic conditions such as diabetes or Parkinson’s are monitored and factored into personalized nutritional and exercise programs. Our safety optimized environment provides an ideal solution for those with mobility issues.

After a lifetime of working hard and raising families, our loved ones deserve a high quality of life with a relaxed atmosphere.

iN2L Person-Centered Engagement Technology

iN2L Person-Centered Engagement Technology applies easy-to-use, stimulating software for recreation, social connection, and memory engagement. Interactive games and Google Earth guided tours of their childhood homes create an expanded world from the comfort of their Neighborhood. iN2L fosters more interactive communication with family, friends, and caregivers. Together we can develop a personalized account for your loved one, filled with their favorite activities.

Pet Therapy

Pet Therapy shows great promise as a beneficial therapy. While interacting with trained companion animals, an opportunity is created for meaningful connections to occur. The act of caring for and nurturing a pet evokes rich memories, reducing anxiety and depression. This simple exchange of love and care can calm our residents by creating an enjoyable distraction filled with hugs and smiles.

Music Therapy

Regency takes pride in our Music Therapy programs. Music therapy stimulates memories by the use of songs residents know and love. The results are inspiring! Like flipping a switch, the use of music has an immediate impact on activating the cognitive process. Music therapy results: dancing, smiles, happiness, and the kind of life enrichment our loved ones deserve.

Mary has been more alert, awake and engaged in activities when she is able to hold the cat. The cat is so lifelike, purrs and wiggles. Mary is thrilled as she pets and talks to it. She comes alive.

Caregiver

Mrs. Morris really enjoys the cat. She is more alert when the cat is present and she has named him “James.”

Caregiver

The memory care TV program used today was a great memory jogger and information introduction. The residents were engaged and seemed to enjoy the interaction with each other and the game.
